For the first time, the Doctorate in Educational Leadership program at Sacramento State is accepting priority applications for Fall 2017. The deadline is December 1, 2016.
“The faculty believe it’s important that students know whether they’ve been admitted to the doctoral program sooner than May,” said Dr. Julian Vasquez Heilig, Director of the Ed.D. program. “The extra months will give them the time they need to prepare for success. Because doctoral students usually work full time during the 3-year program, knowing their admission status several months earlier allows them to make scheduling and financial preparations for the program.”
For students who completed their master’s degree some years ago, having a few extra months to prepare for doctoral study will also help them make a smoother transition. Priority admissions will have access to course reading lists and be invited to join the doctoral community at special events.
Additionally, priority admissions students will have access to a special online seminar series, “Preparing for Doctoral Study,” in the spring. Program Director Heilig and other faculty, alumni will offer guidance and suggestions for preparing to read and write at the doctoral level, family and personal care, and study tips.
The priority application period is expected to fill many of the available places in the Fall 2017 cohort, so interested parties are encouraged to begin gathering components needed to apply. Transcripts, letters of recommendation, and official GRE scores can take time to acquire. It should be noted that all application components must be received by December 1 to be considered for priority admission status. Incomplete applications will not be considered until the March 1 admissions date.
